Washington, DC – The Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur (IIT KGP) was bestowed with an “Outstanding B-School” award, while the parent institution, IIT KGP, was recognized as an “Outstanding Engineering Institute,” both for the third time in succession by ABP News (previously Star News).

Asked to comment on the honor, Vinod Gupta, the soft-spoken man behind the launch of the successful VGSoM, told India America Today in Washington, DC, “This is great.”

Reacting to the news, the Director, Professor S. K. Som, said, “Excellence speaks for itself” and congratulated the staff and students of the Institute. According to IIT KGP sources, Professor Mathur, Dean of Planning and Coordination, will be receiving the award on June 29.

Vinod Gupta, through The Vinod Gupta Charitable Foundation, founded the school in 1993 to develop upcoming management professionals and future CEOs who will lead technology-driven and knowledge-based industries. Gupta has donated over $6 million to set up the school.

IIT Kharagpur has the distinction of being the only science and technology institute in the country which also has a business school, law school, and soon will have a medical college. It is in this spirit that the institute was declared to be dedicated to the service of the nation. The motto of IIT KGP is “More from Less for More.”

The Vinod Gupta School of Management at IIT Kharagpur has evolved from being the first B-school in the IIT system to one of the premier B-schools in the country in just over 2 decades. Since its inception, the focus of the school has been on well-rounded development through diverse academic and non-academic activities. Over the years, VGSoM has grown exponentially to attract the best management talent in the country.

The school is the foremost B-School in the IIT system and offers both a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Post- Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM). The two-year MBA program spans four semesters of full-time residency, including a six-month internship. The PGDBM program, designed for working executives, offers a flexible, nonresidential program. Both promote rigorous study through a state-of-the-art infrastructure.

ABP News’ National B-School Awards recognize institutions that are innovative, modern and industry-related in their curriculum in marketing, advertising, marketing communications, engineering, and technology. The award recipients are well-researched and are chosen by an independent jury and a panel of professionals who believe in nurturing talent and in recognizing superior institutions of higher learning.
