Ambassador Hwang Joonkook noted that the parties in Yemen had committed to a set of measures to implement a nationwide ceasefire and to engage in preparations for the resumption of an inclusive political process under United Nations auspices.

His country fully supports a Yemeni-led political transition process, the active role of the UN, including the Special Envoy for Yemen, and the meaningful participation of women.

In this regard, the reckless provocations and dangerous escalation in the Red Sea must stop, as those activities do not help to ensure the aspirations of Yemen’s people to realize sustainable peace and development.

As Chair of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2140 (2014), his delegation will carefully watch the situation unfolding in and around the country, especially the implementation of sanctions, including the arms embargo.
