Washington, DC – Ceasar Productions hosted 2nd Annual DC South Asian Karaoke Contest in Tri-State area bringing out local talent to lime light. All five categories were full and participants had to be put on wait list.
Manoj Singh, the host said, “It was a delight to see young second generation children having passion for South Asian music, they have so much energy and enthusiasm.”
The contest was held in Shady Grove, Rockville, Maryland. The contestant performed in five categories Best Solo Male 10-20 years and 21 plus years old, Solo Female 10-20 years and 21 plus years old, and Duet. Contestants ranged from ten to sixty year olds, and songs from the 1940s to the ones from recent movies. The contest started with an opening song by Shreya Bhatia (Well known singer of the area, who recently opened Shreya Ghoshal’s concert).
The Solo Male 10-20 years old category winner was Shiva Sachdeva and runner up Rohan Damani. In Male Solo 21 plus years old category winner was Samir Shah (song: Main Jahaan Rahoon) and runner up Samarjit Patnaik (Tum bin jaaoon kahan). In Solo Female 10-20 years old category winner was Saloni Bedi (song: Ektara) and runner up Alekhya Marapaka (song: Chahun main ya na). In Solo Female category 21 plus years old winner was Pooja Mathur (song: Dil Hoom Hoom Kare) and runner up was Shaveta Karla (song: Samjhawan). In Duet category, the winners were Himanshu Chaudhary and Pooja Mathur (song: Gun guna rahe bhavre) and runner up were Rakesh Mathur and Eddie Stephens (song: Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi).
Sangeeta Anand, the co-host concluded, “The judges had a tough time because all the 40 singers were very talented. The audience also really enjoyed the variety of songs.”
