Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) released the following statement on the third indictment of former president Donald Trump:
“The January 6th Capitol riot was the culmination of a long-sustained and intentional effort by the former President to feed his extremist supporters baseless claims of widespread voter fraud in hopes of overturning the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. Trump attempted to invalidate the vote and voice of millions of American people and incite violence during a time that should have been a peaceful transition of power.
“Trump’s third indictment underscores his involvement in assaulting our nation’s democracy. No one is immune from facing consequences for their actions including an ex-president. Now, it is time for the legal process to run its course so our country can continue to move forward and heal.”
