Friday, December 6, 2024, 3:00 – 6:00 pm – Delegates Dining Room, U.N.
At the outset, I would like to extend Morocco’s gratitude to the Diwali Foundation and co-organizers for their leadership in hosting this significant event. Celebrating Diwali and the “Power of One” Awards provides an opportunity to reflect on the universal values of peace, coexistence, and the triumph of light over darkness—values deeply cherished by Morocco.
Allow me to express special regards and appreciation to our esteemed hosts Ranju and Ravi Batra for their dedication, passion and leadership in steering the organization of this special occasion.
It is a pleasure to be part of this significant gathering that celebrates not only the rich significance of Diwali but also recognizes the impact of individuals through The Power of One Award.
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, holds profound cultural and spiritual significance for millions around the world. It is a time of joy, reflection, and the triumph of light over darkness.
These awards are a testament to the transformative power of individual contributions toward global peace and harmony. They align with Morocco’s enduring commitment to multilateralism and peaceful conflict resolution, under the visionary guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him. Morocco has long been a bridge between cultures and civilizations, advocating for tolerance and mutual understanding on the global stage.
Diwali, as a festival of lights, symbolizes humanity’s capacity to unite in the face of adversity, fostering mutual respect and cooperation. This spirit of unity is embodied in the values of the United Nations, where we all strive for a world built on dialogue, inclusivity, and understanding.
At the national level, Morocco takes pride in its ancestral tradition of promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue, which is deeply ingrained in the daily lives of its citizens. Events such as the 9th UNAOC Global Forum, held in Fez have cemented Morocco’s role as a champion of these principles, reinforcing its position as a global leader in fostering respect and harmony among nations.
As we celebrate this festival, I wish to convey Morocco’s heartfelt congratulations to this year’s laureates. Their impactful work reminds us of the collective responsibility to amplify efforts in creating a more peaceful and inclusive world.
Finally, let this celebration inspire us all to reaffirm our dedication to the shared values of peace, tolerance, and solidarity. Morocco remains fully committed to collaborating with all Member States to advance these ideals and to promote a culture of coexistence worldwide.
Thank you and Happy Diwali to all.
