The representative of the Republic of Korea, Council President for June, speaking in his national capacity, highlighted the sharp increase in the civilian death toll in Ukraine last month. Reaffirming that country’s inherent right to self-defence, he said it is crystal clear to the international community who the aggressor and defender are.

The ongoing arms trade between the Russian Federation and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea constitutes a blatant violation of multiple Security Council resolution, he said, adding that today’s meeting should have focused on this “illegal military cooperation”.

Also pointing to the forthcoming high-level meeting between both countries, he said the Russian Federation is derelict in its duties as a permanent member of the Council.  Recalling the Ukraine recovery conference in Germany earlier this week, he pointed to the global support for the Summit on Peace in Ukraine in Switzerland.
