The representative of Tajikistan underlined that the relationship between the UN and regional organizations should exemplify effective interaction between global and regional entities.  This collaboration should enable regional organizations to complement the UN efforts in maintaining international peace and security.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation advocates for coordinating actions under the UN’s auspices to combat the threat of terrorism and is keen on further expanding cooperation with the UN in implementing the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.  Currently, joint efforts are under way to improve the organization by modernizing it and creating new bodies, including those countering narcotics.  In this context, he pointed to active cooperation between the UNODC and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Anti-Narcotics Centre, which will be established in Dushanbe.
