Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with President Taneti Maamau of Kiribati in Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed the United States’ appreciation for Kiribati’s continued leadership and partnership in the Pacific region. The Ambassador and President Maamau discussed opportunities to deepen U.S.-Kiribati cooperation on important bilateral and multilateral issues, and our interest in opening a U.S. embassy on Tarawa to facilitate further dialogue and U.S. economic and development assistance to Kiribati.
