Kharagpur, India – Another feather in the cap of the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur as the school added a modern Ben Gupta Auditorium to an already existing state-of-the-art infrastructure.

The inauguration was attended by distinguished guests and alumni including Vinod Gupta, founder of RGSOIPL and Susan Karamanian Associate Dean for International and Comparative Legal Studies and Burnett Family Professorial Lecturer in International and Comparative Law and Policy from the Law School of George Washington University (GWU), Washington DC.

Congratulating the students as “good and smart,” Gupta proposed to the authorities to, “take more students, educate more students.”

Gupta said, “my only suggestion is for law school and business school we should take more students because they are under-utilizing the beautiful infrastructure.”

Karamanian commented, “It’s an honor to be here at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur for the commemoration of the Ben Gupta Auditorium at the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law.”

“Working with IIT and others, in the development of this school and to see the auditorium being launched in a way that will enable the students to take advantage of the facility,” added Karamanian.

Karamanian was instrumental in a recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for professional collaboration between RGSOIPL and the Law School of GWU, Washington DC, for exchange of students and faculty. Gupta had attended the signing in Washington, DC and pledged $250,000 for the next 5 years for exchange of 8-10 students along with a faculty member between GWU and IIT.

Prof Souvik Bhattacharyya Deputy Director, Prof Sidhartha Mukhopadhyay, Dean Alumni Affairs & International Relations and Chinna Boddipalli, MD – Institutional Development (AA&IR) had attended on behalf of IIT Kharagpur.

Earlier this year, the RGSOIPL was ranked second in the 2016 All India-based ranking of Law Schools/Law Universities in India done by CARRER360. IIT Kharagpur is the only IIT to have such a School among its several branches of expansion beyond the domain of engineering and technology.

Intellectual Property and Technology Law Education is emerging as an urgent requirement to protect and service Intellectual Property being generated in India and elsewhere in the world. Gupta in 2005 felt that a large number of lawyers would be required in India to protect intellectual property and he generously donated for setting up RGSOIPL in IIT Kharagpur.
