Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump on Monday (Sept. 16) confirmed again that he will be meeting with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but added that he will also be meeting with the Pakistani leader Imran Khan.
Before boarding Marine One from South Lawn in the White House, President Trump was asked what would be his message to the world, when he travels to Houston and addresses 50,000 people on September 22, along with Prime Minister Modi, he replied: “I’ll see Prime Minister Modi and I will — we’ll be meeting with India and Pakistan.”
Without going into the details, Trump added, “And I think a lot of progress has been made there. A lot of progress.”
Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador to the US, Harsh Vardhan Shringla issued a statement outlining the meeting of two leaders saying, “The two leaders addressing the ‘Howdy Mody’ event is historic and unprecedented. It reflects not only the closeness and comfort levels in the relationship but also the personal chemistry and friendship between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump.
“House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, the second-ranking member of the Democratic Leadership, is also going to address the ‘Howdy Modi’ event. This reflects the strong bipartisan support India-US relations enjoy,” added Ambassador Shringla.
Earlier, the White House in a statement from the Press Secretary confirmed a report from IAT that on Sunday, September 22, 2019, President Donald J. Trump will travel to Houston, Texas to underscore the important partnerships between the United States and India.
“In Houston, President Trump will participate in an event with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India,” confirmed the statement.
“The event, “Howdy, Modi! Shared Dreams, Bright Futures,” is expected to draw tens of thousands of people. It will be a great opportunity to emphasize the strong ties between the people of the United States and India, to reaffirm the strategic partnership between the world’s oldest and largest democracies, and to discuss ways to deepen their energy and trade relationship,” detailed the White House Press Secretary.
The organizers, Texas India Forum in Houston announced that the “Howdy, Modi!” community summit will host Prime Minister Modi at NRG Stadium on September 22 and expects a capacity crowd of 50,000 to pack the stadium. NRG Stadium, one of America’s largest professional football stadiums, is home to the Houston Texans franchise, and held the Super Bowl in 2017. The event will include a cultural program and an address by Prime Minister Modi.
