Washington, DC – Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, the most versatile and multi-dimensional institution in India will add another feather in its cap when it starts offering micro-specialization in journalism and media studies, according to the visiting Director, Partha P. Chakrabarti.
Speaking to Tejinder Singh, Editor of India America Today during a recent visit to the US, PPC (as he is fondly called by all) said, “Something like media and journalism can come in as a micro-specialization.”
Elaborating on the subject of micro-specialization, Director PPC said, “We have started something called micro-specializations, where you can specialize on any subject and this is a very unique thing of IIT Kharagpur where student who is doing mining engineering is doing a micro-specialization in IPR or student who is doing metallurgy is doing embedded wireless systems.”
There has been a demand for short courses on journalism among the students, and over the years, aspiring journalists have been running high quality campus news outlets from the institution.
