Mumbai – Bollywood stars shone yet again at Manish Malhotra’s show on the opening night of Lakme Fashion Week 2013 in Mumbai on Thursday (August 22). The Who’s Who of Mumbai’s acting brigade, Karishma Kapoor, Kajol, Urmila Matondkar, Neha Dhupia and Jacqueline Dhupia walked the ramp in Malhotra’s creations as the designer launched ‘Reflections’, his new festive collection at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Mumbai.
The designer’s latest collection, ‘Reflections’, marries the best of India’s heritage with youth and sparkle. Malhotra has created a trendy new silhouette – the ghagra pant, which is a fusion of the sharara and the classic pant.
This new creation is a rather stylish alternative to the evergreen lehenga and could be the pop pick for the upcoming festive season. The designer has also turned around the traditional Rajasthani koti to create a koti top, which can be worn with saris or ghagras.
On his collection, Malhotra said, “’Reflections, my festive collection for this season, is high on color and on new silhouettes, while it plays with the concept of lightness of being with celebration in mind. To me, a festive occasion is a wonderful blend of tradition, culture, rituals, colors, and intensity of emotions. Time-honored practices come together with special occasions and new traditions to create happy times. It is this melting of the old and the new that has inspired `Reflections’.”
This vibrant collection offers several options for a bride and her entourage for pre-wedding ceremonies and festivities. The primary influences are from Rajasthan and Kutch – mirror work, traditional color blocking and a palette of deep green, dark beige, and mustard – characteristic of this region.
The collection also features textured silks, youthful bright colors and Manish’s signature thread-work and custom-created zari work from Kashmir.
‘Reflections’, along with his diffusion line for men and women, will be available at the designer’s new store in Mumbai.
